Job shadow
Shadow Experience
On February 9th 2016 I interviewed Richard Peterson, he’s an Art professor at College of the Sequoias community college. I was interested to shadow shadow Mr. Peterson because when I first became interested in a career of Art, who I most wanted to meet was someone who has had a lot of experience with Art. I had asked him in my interview about his times whenever he’s exhibited his own work. It couldn’t remember much because it was so long ago but I’m sure he had told me that you need as much skill as a person could possibly get to become a decent artist.
When I got to COS , I greeted Mr. Peterson and we went to his office to talk about the process of the job shadow. So right after we had our quick discussion he got straight to instructions like a normal teacher would do. I start listening to his instructions and little lessons he would give to his Art 009 class. He would be sure that his students know what they're doing because in Art it’s important to focused especially in his class. Gathering around him is the best thing to do whenever he gives a certain demo about the project. He never liked repeating himself. Mr. Peterson would most importantly point out that being able to draw different shapes doesn’t get old to him because that’s how Art is, it’s form, everything in everyday life is a creation of Art and that's why he wouldn’t leave his job at all.
Mr. Peterson has a perfect way of communicating with his students depending on what the difficulty is. His methods he uses throughout the class are very reasonable and original. I like that he does things his way and says whatever he wants. I noticed there were a couple of kids who didn’t seem like they wanted to be there or might of just been there because they needed the class credits. That was one of the thing I agreed with him throughout the whole day. I wrote it down to. Overall It was what I expected because Art is a career in which people are amazed about what you created and where professors like Peterson do things at their own pace.
In the future I definitely would like to pursue a career in Art. It’ll either be teaching an Art class or being an international artist. Mr. Peterson loves what he does and he says the most rewarding part of his job is “being able to give a students experience and inspire students with what Art is”. Without a doubt Art is what I strive towards becoming good at.
